“Well Ms. Crawlwell, it seems your father left you the Asylum in his Will.’’ My Aunt Linda nearly choked to death on her tea. “What do you mean Hattie gets the Asylum?! She’s only 15!!!” I wasn’t really surprised, Dad always said that I would get the Asylum. Sure it was weird, not every teenage girl got a Asylum for their 15th birthday. “Please Auntie, I can handle it.” I said, trying to prevent my Aunt from having a stroke. “I played there when I was little, remember?” My father’s lawyer, Mr. Melon, eyes widened. “He let you play in an Asylum?” “Yes.” I said. “Full of insane mental patients?” “Yes” “And you were okay with it?” “Yes.” Mr. Melon just looked back at his papers and documents, as my Aunt ranted on about Asylums and teenagers. As a small child the Asylum was a special place to me, a magical place where people got better. Not to mention it was the only time I ever really got to see my dad, he was always so busy. So when ever I went to the old mental hospital, I was always so happy cause I got to see him. But, all good things must come to an end as people say. 2 months ago the asylum closed because of too many unreported deaths, and my heart broke. I still never got to see my dad because he had ate something bad, giving him food poisoning. And that’s what we were doing in the small, stuffy office of my father’s lawyer. My father had died, of food poisoning a week earlier. And now my plan was to fix up the old building and make it into a place where I could live, without my nosey Aunt always breathing down my neck. “Hattie...sweetie, Are you sure you don’t want to just fix up and sell the old building?” My Aunt asked, a concerned look on her face. I nodded, that Asylum ment to much to me. It wasn’t just happy memories that resided there, it was my happiness. I looked my Aunt dead in the eye and nodded. “I would never sell that building.” The Adventure beginsThe next day I was standing in front of ‘Crawlwell’s Asylum for the Mentally Unhealthy.’ I got out of the limo and met with the face of my dad’s secretary; Nikki. “Hello Ms. Crawlwell, nice to see you again.” Nikki said, smiling. “Shame it had to be under such sad circumstances.” I nodded. “Yes, shame.” Nikki gave me some files and began to explain some things. “So make sure you study these and feel free to wander around. Please study these, I’m telling you your life may depend on it. Oh, and be careful, the ghosts can get excited.” I was taken back by this statement, Ghost’s? What was that?! I turned to ask Nikki what she ment, but she wasn’t there. So i was just left there alone, staring at the old crumbling building that my father left me. I walked inside and as soon as I got through the rotting threshold, the door fell off its hinges. “Wow.” I muttered. “The health inspector needs to give this place a big fat F-.” I treaded carefully on the dusty and rotted tile floor. Afraid of falling through the floor and landing full force in the all concrete basement, I kept close to the wall and the furniture which was (weirdly) nailed to the floor. I set down the files that Nikki gave me on a nearby admittance desk, and began skimming through them. I noticed that all these files were of patients, dead patients. I decided I would walk around and see the different rooms, I grabbed the files and made sure my phone was turned on. Just incase I fell through any floors and needed to call an ambulance, I put my phone in my front pocket so I could easily reach it. And so I began looking through the Asylum, and my adventure began. Jeffery WoodsName: Jeffery Woods also known as Jeff the Killer. Age: 16 years Condition: Declared Insane. Cell Number: 666 Extra Notes: Jeff died of electrocution on June 1st in 2015. According to doctors he got out of his cell, ran to the shock therapy chamber and pumped himself with enough volts to electrocute himself, afterwards he wrote on the wall in blood ‘See You In Hell’. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I shuddered as I realized Jeffery Woods’ cell number was the most evil number out there. I was walking around in the Asylum and realized I was in the men’s ward, I decided to visit Jeff’s cell out of respect. I reached the cell door and could smell the faint scent of blood, gulping down the feeling of nausea I had, I pushed on the old, cold, metal door. To my surprise it creaked open at my light touch, there wasn’t much inside the cell just an old bed and a window with bars preventing the patient from escaping. As soon I entered the cell I felt like I shouldn’t be there, like someone or something didn’t want me there. Just as I was about to leave the cell, something grabbed me and slammed me hard against the decaying wall. I screamed then realized, no one was there, no one was in the cell with me! “You have some nerve.” A raspy voice said in my ear. I turned but my gaze met the crumbling cement wall. I was not one to believe in ghost’s, I always had a rational explanation for everything. However, if you’re thrown into a wall with inhuman force and no one is there you start wondering. I was then yanked roughly to my feet and thrown out of the cell, I got up and looked at the rusty, metal door as it slammed shut behind me. I shuddered and continued to walk down the hall, reading the next file as I went. Benjamin MarksName: Benjamin Marks also known as BEN Drowned by the staff. Age: 12 years. Cell Number: 13. Condition: Hallucinations. Extra Notes: Ben was a wiz at technology and nearly escaped 5 times. Ben drowned himself in the pool at the age of 12 on the 4th of December 2015. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I walked toward cell 13 wondering what awaited me there. I remember thinking how sad it was that he took his own life, and he was only 12. I reached the door and felt a wave of depression wash over me, I did have my depressed moments but I was normally not a depressed person. I suddenly started hearing this high pitched laugh go through my head, and a chopped up version of the ‘Song of Healing’ from ‘The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.’ “You shouldn’t have done that, Hattie.” I turned around when I heard a voice and realized that, in my depressed moment, I wandered into cell number 13. “W-who’s there?” I asked, failing to sound tough. All of the sudden my vision went black, it took me a minute to realize someone had covered my eyes. I reached behind me but felt no one. ‘Thats impossible, I can feel them breathing on my neck.” I thought, to myself. ‘There is no way there is no one there!’ “You’ve met with a terrible fate, haven’t you?’’ The voice whispered, in my ear. “Let me go!” I yelled, trying to break free of the grasp of my captor. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” The voice whispered again. I held still, I could tell the person was shorter than me but not by much. I was then shoved out of the cell roughly but not as rough as I was in cell 666. “Be careful, don’t die.” And with that the door to the cell slowly closed, leaving me standing there wondering what in the hell my late father drug me into. Tobias (Toby) RogersName: Tobias (Toby) Erin Rogers Also known as ‘Ticci Toby’ Age: 17 Years Cell Number: 777 Condition: Turrettes syndrom, Hallucinations. Extra Notes: Toby Rogers claimed to see an apparition of a really tall man with no face, and had multiple tic’s and twitches cause of his turrettes syndrom. Toby died of tuberculosis a year before the death of Jeffery Woods. Toby’s favorite food was Waffles. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Waffles, huh?” I muttered to myself. I was currently walking toward cell 777, I had decided to visit all the cells of the patients in the files, and thinking hopefully this ghost will be nicer than the other 2. I reached the cell and decided I would knock on the door. “Hello?” I called, as I opened the cell door. I was really surprised when I saw the form of a teenage boy, standing and twitching as he looked at me. “Are you Toby?” I asked, cautiously taking a step forward. “Y-yes, who-tic- are-tic- y-you?” He said, stepping into the light coming from the barred window. “I’m Hattie.” I said, trying to sound friendly when the truth was, I was terrified. “Oh, y-you’re the-tic- chick J-eff gave a-tic tic- b-beating too.” Toby said, with a dark chuckle. “I have a b-bet that he’ll be the f-first to k-kill you.” “Why do you all want to kill me?” I asked, frustrated. “What did I do to you?” “It’s not w-what you-tic- did.” Toby said, his brown hair covering his eyes which were covered by yellow goggles. “It’s what your father did.” With that I was lead politely, by my hand, to the door. The door closed and I wondered what my Dad did to these people that was so terrible, I touched one of the bruises I got from being thrown into the wall in Jeffery Woods’ cell. I hissed, yeah I needed to come up with a really good excuse for these. I sighed and looked at the next file and to my surprise saw a familiar last name. Liu WoodsName: Liu Woods also known as Homicidal Liu. Age: 17 Years Cell Number: 180 Condition: Multiple Personality Disorder. Extra Notes: Liu himself is perfectly sane Sully, his other personality, is another story. Liu died of Influenza a couple weeks after his brother, Jeffery Woods, electrocuted himself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I stood in the hallway completely shocked. No way the man who threw me into a wall had an older brother, who not only could possibly be worse but had two personalities. I then felt a hand on my shoulder and screamed. “Hey you don’t need to freak out!” A voice spoke, from behind me. “The others may be jerks but I’m not gonna hurt ya.” I turned to see the face of who I assumed was Jeffery Woods’ brother. “Dear lord, you scared me half to hell and back.” I said. “Sorry, it was Sully’s idea if that makes you feel any better.” Yeah this guy was Liu, he seemed nice but then again Toby also seemed nice, till I learned the fact that he bet on my life. Liu had multiple stitches covering his face, but what I noticed most was his eyes. His eyes were a striking emerald green and they seemed to be filled with hatred yet an innocent look, and I got the feeling he honestly didn’t belong here. “Hi, I’m Liu.” Liu said, with a big smile. “I’m, Hattie.” I said, returning said smile. “To be honest I’m glad to meet a ghost that hasn’t tried to kill me or freak me out in some sick way.” “Yeah, sorry about my brother, he’s really not in a good mood today.” Liu said. “You know now that I think about it, Jeffs never in a good mood.” I laughed. “Well I can tell you he certainly doesn’t like me.” Liu nodded. “He’ll get used to you...if you live long enough.” “LIU!!!!” I flinch at the sound of a super aggressive voice. “I gotta go, hopefully I’ll see you around.” And with that Liu disappeared, I smiled. At least one of these ghosts were nice. Tim and Brian SuttonNames: Tim and Brian Sutton also known as Masky and Hoodie. Ages: 18 and 19 years. Cell Number: Shared cell 114. Condition: Both brothers had disturbing hallucinations. Extra Notes: Both Brothers shot themselves in the head, Doctors believe it was influenced by the hallucinations the boys continuously saw. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was currently in Tim and Brian’s cell, it was surprisingly clean. I had knocked on the door and it had opened, unfortunately I could still see and smell the blood from when the brothers killed themselves. “Hello?” I called into the cell, before I walked in. “I’m not here to make you angry, I just want to say hey, please don’t try and kill me.” I then felt a pair of gloved hands pull me over to the window and push me toward the bars. I almost panicked thinking this spirit was trying to push me out the window. “Look out there.” A voice said to me. “Out there is freedom, your father took that from us.” “I’m sorry…” I said. “But I’m not my father.” I was then lead out of the cell by the unseen ghosts, and the door closed. Jack Evans Name: Jack Evans also known as Eyeless Jack. Age: 19 years. Cell Number: 145. Condition: Cannibalistic Tendencies. Extra Notes: Jack ate Kidneys. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I walked into cell 145 and immediately felt sick, a burning sensation built up in my side until there was to much pain for me to ignore. I squealed and jumped out of the cell. “Damn.” I said, as lifted my shirt and saw deep red claw marks. I hissed as I poked at my side, it hurt much more than I thought. I sighed, realizing that this ghost probably hated me more than Jeff. I wanted to keep the building, but these ghosts are making it really hard to still want to. I decided I would visit the next ghost, and then sighed in relief when I saw there was only one ghost left. Sally WilliamsName: Sally Williams. Age: 8 years. Cell Number: 717 Condition: Brain Damage Extra Notes: Sally had brain damage from a car accident when she was very young, Sally also had hallucinations of a tall man with no face, she called him the Slendy-Man. Sally fell down the stairs and died in the hospital a week later. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I walked to the woman’s ward, looking at the picture of a young girl with striking green eyes, brown, wavy hair and wearing a pink dress. ‘Sally is such a pretty girl, it’s a shame what happened to her.’ I thought, as I walked up to the door of her cell and was surprised to find it open. “Hello?” I said, as I poked my head in. “Hi, I’m Sally!” a cheerful voice said. “Do you wanna play with me?” “Well, Sally.” I said, kneeling down to the eight year olds level. “I’m actually the new owner of this place, so I have to look around.” Sally looked confused. “But you’re a teenager.” “Yeah my dad left me this place.” I explained, the young girl nodded. “I’ll play with you later, if I live long enough.” “Oh! Your the girl Jeffy beat up.” Sally said, the look of realization came to her bloody face. “I hope he didn’t hurt you to bad, you seem nice.” I smiled, said goodbye and walked around the rest of the asylum, thinking about what I wanted to do with it. Altogether VoteTwo weeks into the renovations of the asylum, which I had decided to turn into a mansion to live in, I was walking through the men’s ward when I was stopped by a boy in Link cosplay. I had learned that this boy was BEN the boy who drowned himself from cell number 13, I smiled. “Hi BEN.” I said, BEN returned my smile. “Hey, how is your side?” He asked. “It’s better.” BEN was nice to hang around, he was really good at video games and we challenged each other all the time. “Good.” BEN said. He was about to walk away, when he stopped to look at me. “Hey, We had an altogether vote and everyone is okay with you being here, however, if you tell anyone of our existence you will die.” “I understand.” I said, with a nod. “Even Jeff is okay with it?” “Well...Jeff is still on edge.” BEN muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. “But he’ll get used to you...eventually.” I sighed, I didn’t know why but I really wanted Jeff to like me. I decided to go to the basement and rummage around some old boxes. I found the dustiest box I could, thinking there would be some cool stuff. Instead I found a scarf, a knife, a Nintendo 3DS, a pair of hatchets, a mask, a gun, a teddy bear and a jar with a preserved kidney inside. I took this stuff up stairs and tried to find all the ghosts, because I had a sneaking suspicion this stuff belonged to them. I found Sally sleeping on her bed, not wanting to wake her I placed the stuffed bear next to her and, knowing she was a ghost, covered her with a pink, fluffy blanket. I placed the 3DS in BEN’s room, the knife on Jeff’s bed, returned Jack’s kidney in a jar, gave masky his mask and hoodie his gun, placed Liu’s scarf in his room and returned Toby’s hatchets. That night the renovations were completed and I could sleep soundly in my bed in my new room at the asylum turned mansion. Your sorta FineI woke up with a bad headache, so I walked across the now carpeted floor to the kitchen to get some aspirin. It was pitch black and, to add to the already creepy atmosphere, it was raining and thundering like crazy. I shivered as lightning struck the ground outside, it was the middle of summer however it felt like the beginning of winter in my white T-shirt and blue PJ shorts. I got to the kitchen and grabbed a glass and filled it with milk, as soon as I grabbed an aspirin the glass shattered. “Jeff, that wasn’t funny.” I said, as I cleaned up the glass and milk that was on the floor and counter. Jeff appeared next to me. “Like hell it wasn’t.” He said, laughing. I grumbled, I really didn’t need his attitude at this moment. I finished cleaning up the mess and turned to glare at the still laughing killer. “Jeff, I have something to tell you.” I said, Jeff looked curiously at me. “Your a Dick.” Jeff let out a fresh string of laughter. “I know that.” I sighed. “And you’re okay with being a dick?” I asked. Jeff nodded. “Have been since I was 13 years old.” Earlier I was tired and honestly just wanted to go to bed, but now I was wide awake. “You know,” Jeff muttered. “Your kinda fine.” I realized he was holding the knife I found in the box, “Well, thanks.” I said. “I used this knife to kill my family, such fond memories.” Jeff looked lovingly at the knife. “I was bullied, they took my sanity, I took their life.” I felt like I could relate to Jeff when I heard this, I was bullied and my dad was gone all day everyday and my mom died from pneumonia when I was young. I had very little friends, I mean no one wants to hang out with the girl whose dad worked at a nut-house. I sighed and Jeff seemed to notice my lack of speech. “You okay?” He asked, still playing with his knife. “Yeah, just thinking about somethings.” I realised this was my opportunity to ask some questions. “Can I ask you something?” “Maybe.” Jeff said. “Only if you answer my questions as well.” “Okay, deal.” I said, finally I was going to get some answers. Jeff sat on the counter, I sat at the table and we started our little Q&A session. “So...Why did you electrocute yourself?” I asked. “This place was hell.” Jeff said, nonchalantly. “When did your dad die?” “A month ago.” I answered. “Why was this place hell?” “Your dad made sure it was that way, How did your dad die?” “He was poisoned, What did my father do?” It was when I asked this, that Jeff snapped. “Listen here and listen good, imagine getting shock treatments everyday for 3 years straight. Imagine going to doctors who don’t give a crap about you and what supposedly is wrong with you, imagine only falling asleep to the screams of other people being experimented on. Do you know how it feels to stare at four cement walls and feel so scared and alone?” I shook my head ‘No’, I sat there staring at the boy sitting on the counter in shock. “It’s hell! You have no idea what we’ve been through or what your father has done. He murdered and experimented on innocent people who were only different from the other people in society. We are only here because the outside world rejects us.” I stood abruptly. “Shut up!” I yelled. “Your lieing! I visited here when I was little and people always looked happy, my father helped people. And who are you to talk about murdering innocent people? You killed your own family, you’ve killed innocent people, and you have the guts to call my father a murderer.” Jeff laughed bitterly. “Were you close to your father?” “N-no…” Damn he had got me. “He was never home, my aunt always took care of me and told me about him, she always said he was a good person. And I believed her.” “Well, I guess your aunt didn’t tell you the truth.” Jeff muttered. “I’m telling you the truth missy so believe it or not, it’s the truth and will stay the truth.” I sighed deep down I knew it was the truth, I didn’t want it to be, but it was. “ I have one last question.” I muttered. “Shoot.” “You all said that I should be careful and not to die.” I said, recalling the first day I met the ghosts. “Is someone going to try to kill me?” Jeff’s glasgow smile twitched indicating that he was smiling. “Yes.” lIFE IN gENERALMy life was pretty okay, everyday I’d come home from school and BEN would drag me to the living room and we’d play video games, I’d help Sally read, Jeff and Liu would make a mess in the kitchen and I would clean it up, I helped Masky and Hoodie make cheesecake and Toby and I would play in leave piles outside. I then would go to bed thinking about how Jeff had said someone was going to kill me and the conversation that followed. ~yeah, flashback tiiiime~ “Who?” I asked. “Who, what?” “Who wants to kill me?” “Don’t know.” Jeff shrugged, as he said this. I sighed. “Well you’re no help.” Jeff chuckled. “What’re you gonna do about it?” “Try not to die.” “Cool” ~End of flashback~ I tossed and turned, but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t sleep. I looked out my window and thought I saw someone standing there, but when I looked again no one was there. ‘Ghosts are getting to me.’ I thought. I got up and went to the security room which I had kept a security room, and blasted my favorite song through the speakers. Next thing I knew BEN came through the the speaker and turned off the music. I turned it back on, BEN turned it off, I turned it on, BEN turned it off again and I turned it on again. Soon everyone was at the door wondering why music was continuously turning on and off, as BEN and I just stared at each other and turned the music on and off. Yeah, I was a little too tired. Finally I got so tired that I fell asleep in the office chair I was sitting in, the next morning I woke up in my bed with a sleeping BEN. It turns out ghosts actually need sleep and I woke everyone up with my loud music. A Strange Visit From AuntieAfter a couple months of watching my back and distancing myself from pretty much every person in the world, I realized Jeff must have been trying to scare me. No one had tried to kill me and I was starting to feel lonely, by this time the only people I hung out with were dead. When I accused Jeff of trying to scare me he insisted he was telling the truth, though I didn’t believe him we dropped the subject. One day I was playing tag with Sally around the mansion, when my aunt unexpectedly dropped by. “Oh, chizz!” I cried, looking out the window. “Everyone hide, my Aunt Linda is here!” Everyone obeyed except Jeff who insisted on following me. “No Jeff, bad!” I said. “Go hide.” “You can’t tell me what to do.” At this point Liu appeared. “Yes she can.” He said, as he dragged Jeff away. I chuckled lightly to myself, and walked down stairs to let my aunt in. “Hi Auntie, it’s so unexpected to see you.” I said, showing her to the living room. She nodded and looked around, I could tell she was judging every inch of the place. I rolled my hazel eyes, Auntie was always such a judgmental person even as a child she judged me by my appearance and appearance only. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my aunt it’s just that she was just so judgmental and strict that it wore on my self-confidence. “You’ve certainly cleaned this place up.” Auntie muttered, sitting in an arm chair. I nodded. “Yes ma’am.” “Don’t you get lonely here, Hattie?” “Not really.” My aunt sighed and shook her head. “You need a social life dear.” “I’m perfectly content with being left alone here, Auntie.” I laughed. It was at that moment I happened to look behind my Aunt and saw Jeff the Killer sticking his tongue out at me like a little child. ‘Jeff I will kill you.’ I thought. My Aunt’s voice snapped me back to reality. “Hattie i’m just saying that you need someone in your life, someone you can go to with problems. Have you ever thought about dating?” I nearly choked and my face turned bright red. “Auntie!” “I’m just suggesting it, I’m always here for you but I honestly think you should either move in with a boyfriend or your cousins, I’m not comfortable with you being here by yourself.” My Aunt, sighed as she sipped on her tea. I could see Jeff struggling to not laugh his head off behind Auntie. “Excuse me a minute.” I said, as I got up. I walked past Jeff and to Eyeless Jack’s room, and knocked. “...Come in.” “Hey Jack.” I said, as I walked into his room. “Yes, Hattie what can I do for you?” He said, turning toward me. “I’m trying to visit with my Aunt and Jeff is being and idiot, can you help me out.” Jack nodded. “Perhaps I can subdue the subject.” “Yes, thank you so much Jack.” I walked back into the living room, and smirked as Jack dragged Jeff out of the room. “Sorry, I thought I left the oven on.” I said to my Aunt, smiling. She looked at me suspiciously, but then looked over at a picture of my mother and sighed . “Your mother would not approve of you living here alone.” Aunt said. ‘Why does she want me to move out so much?” I thought, as I looked at the picture. We talked for a couple more hours, and when Auntie finally left Jeff had a gigantic smirk on his face. “What?” I asked. “I know something you don’t.~” He said, in a sing song voice. “Tell me.” “Nope.” Jeff and I argued the rest of the night. The Man in The ForestI walked out of the school I went to, relieved to be out of that horror movie. I noticed on the long walk home, I had the feeling of being watched. Thinking that maybe Jeff had followed me to school, I left it alone. Yes, Jeff followed me everywhere, he said he liked to annoy me because I was quote unquote ‘Adorable when i was angry or annoyed.’ I sighed. “Jeff I know it’s you, stop trying to scare me it won’t work.” I heard a twig snap behind me, I turned to look behind me. “Jeff, for the love of Loki, would you just list-” I stopped yelling, realizing that no one was behind me. I sighed, and continued to walk home. I decided to take the trail through the forest that, conveniently, lead to my backyard. I walked under the branches of the trees and listened to ‘Motionless in White’ through my headphones, that were attached to my IPhone. All of the sudden, the sound of static ripped through my brain. I screamed and yanked my headphones off of my head and onto the ground. I breathed heavily. ‘What, in the name of all that is anime, was that!?’ I thought. I looked around for anything, anything at all, that could have made my headphones do that. I searched and found nothing, ziltch, zip, zero. But I knew, I knew, something had to have caused that. I turned in a circle observing everything. My gazed landed on a man. He was about 10 maybe 20 feet away from me, I squinted, trying to get a better look at him. He wore a nice, black suit and a red tie, maybe it was the distance, but, it looked like he was abnormally tall. I squinted harder, maybe it was my imagination, but, it looked like he didn’t have a face. I rubbed my eyes, thinking I was seeing things. I opened my eyes and screamed. Right in front of me was the man, who not a second ago, was about 20 feet away from me. And I was right. He was abnormally tall, but that wasn’t what was frightening, no. What was frightening was the fact that he had no face. I screamed again and ran as fast as I could down the trail. “Keep going straight! Keep going straight!” I yelled, at myself. I could see the asylum through the trees and I booked it. I unlocked the back door as fast as I could and slammed it shut behind me, I then locked it again. “Hey, where were you?” “Yeah, you’re like an hour late getting home.” “It seems as though something has frightened her.” “Y-yeah, you o-tic-okay?” “Damn, you look like you’ve seen a ghost.” I looked behind me, BEN, Liu/Sully, Jack, Toby and Jeff, were all in the kitchen staring at me. “Oh, haha, Jeff.“ Sully, Liu’s other personality, muttered. “You won’t believe what I just saw.” I muttered. BEN smirked. “Judging by your face it was either Andy Biersack or Chris Motionless.” He said. “I wish.” I said, shaking my head. “This guy was really, like abnormally, tall and he had no face.” Everyone got really silent and gave each other a weird look. “What?” Jeff looked down and kicked an imaginary rock on the floor, liu played with his scarf, toby suddenly became very interested in staring at the wall, BEN started playing ‘Super Smash Bros’ on his 3DS and Jack played with a scalpel. “What are you not telling me?” No answer. “You don’t believe me, do you.” Liu sighed. “It’s not that it’s-That we’ve all seen the Slender Man before-Sully!” I stood there awkwardly. “Okay, I get it. You know you guys almost got me there.” Jeff looked at me. “What do you mean?” “You guys tricking me like that.” I smiled, and headed out of the kitchen. “How’d you get that tall and make yourself look like that, it was creepy.” As I walked upstairs I heard BEN muter one word “Denial.” VisionsI ran as fast as I could through the trail in the Forest. I wasn’t going to take the old path any more, but it turns out I left my headphones there and it’s the fastest way home and they’re really good headphones. I had picked up my headphones and, the same man from when I dropped my headphones was there. Naturally I ran, and found myself safe in my house before I knew it. I decided I would investigate the faceless man I was seeing, the professional way. So, I went to my local library. “Hey Melinda.” I said, walking up to the reference desk. “I need to look at everything you have on a tall, faceless man.” Melinda looked at me strangely. “Now, why would you be interested in something like that?” She asked. “Oh, just something I read.” “Well, all we have are some old news articles that are stashed in the computer, but they might be enough.” “Thanks.” 2 hours later I was sitting in a solitary computer room, looking through old news articles. “Wow.” I muttered. “This guy kidnaps a lot of children.” I sighed, I was looking for answers not more questions. Stupid internet. Why doesn’t he have a face?! I placed my head down on the cold, wooden surface of the desk, sighing in delight at it’s cold touch. After a minute I decided to continue with my research, and then go to bed. I lifted my head off the table and looked in front of me, and screamed. Standing there, was the faceless man. I rubbed my eyes, begging the apparition to disappear. When I opened my eyes he was gone, just gone. Another Hallucination. ‘Okay.’ I thought to myself. ‘Time to see a psychiatrist.’ Depression“Watcha doin’?” Jeff asked, while I was on my phone looking up shrinks. “Nothing.” I said, as I put away my Phone and continued to cook Mac N’ Cheese. Jeff grabbed my phone and handed it to BEN, who was standing behind him. “Hey, give that back.” I yelled, making a grab for the phone and failing to retrieve it. “Wow.” BEN said. “Never thought I’d see the day that you of all people looked up a shrink.” In that moment, something in Jeff’s eyes changed. “So, you don’t trust us.” He muttered. “N-no it’s not like that.” I muttered. “Then what is it.” BEN placed a hand on Jeff’s shoulder. “Dude, calm down.” “No, she doesn’t trust us BEN.” Jeff growled. “She’s been afraid of us this whole time, and I was stupid not to see it before.” “Of course I trust you, I wouldn’t be living here if I didn’t.” I yelled. “Admit it you’re scared of us, you’re just like your father!” Jeff yelled back. “You’re right I am scared…” I muttered, Jeff just stared at me. “But that doesn’t mean I don’t trust you.” “Bull.” At this point BEN was just standing there awkwardly, Jeff was pissed, and I was on the verge of tears. “I know my dad did bad things to all of you, but I’m not my father.” I said, my voice cracking. “I might be afraid but it’s not because of you, it’s because I made a promise to keep you all hidden and I don’t want to break it!” I looked at Jeff he was looking at the floor as if it might fall from under his feet, and...were those tears? “I’m...sorry.” Jeff whispered. “What?” I asked, mostly because he never said he was sorry about anything. “There’s no way you’re getting me to say that saying that again.” Jeff muttered. I tried to smile and laugh, but my face wouldn’t let me. BEN seemed to notice this, because his facial expression became one of concern. “You okay?” I nodded and the tears began to flow. “H-hey, wh-ats going-tic- on?” Toby muttered, as he popped his head into the kitchen. Did I mention he came through the fridge? No matter how much I rubbed my eyes, no matter how much I willed, the tears wouldn’t stop. What was the cause for this? Was it stress? Most likely, I still don’t know after all this time. Jeff looked curiously at me, as did BEN and Toby. “I’m-hic-s-sorry.” I choked out. “I’ve just been having all-hic-these hallucinations and it’s-hic-j-just stressing me o-out.” I sat down in a chair and curled up, I could feel Jeff’s lidless eyes burning into the back of my head. Toby came over and attempted to put his hand on my shoulder, of course it just went right through me. “Hey it’s okay, it just means you’re g-going-tic-c-crazy.” Toby said. “Don’t tell big sis that!” I turned at the voice of little Sally. Sally ran up and gave me a hug, for some reason she and BEN never went through me. “You’re gonna be okay, alright big sis.” I smiled, but of course my vision became blurry with more tears. I got up, this had to stop. I walked into the living room and up to the big mirror on the mantle above the fireplace, Toby, Sally, Jeff and BEN followed me as I did so. “I’ve got to make these stop.” I muttered and repeatedly wiped my eyes. It didn’t work in fact more tears came. “Why won’t-hic-they s-stop?!” I yelled, as I continued rubbing. “Hey calm down.” BEN said, leading me over to the couch to sit down. “How do you expect me to do that?” I sobbed, as I sat on the couch. “Come on, Hattie, it’s just tears.” Jeff said, crossing his arms. “You’ve cried before.” “N-no.” I sobbed. “I-hic-haven’t.” Toby stared at me in shock, as did everyone else in the room. “What?” “I lived with my Aunt.” I started to explain. “She a-always scolded me when I s-started to cry, so I started view crying as s-something I shouldn’t d-do.” BEN patted my head. “You say you love your Aunt, but, it sounds like she was just trying to control you.” “No, my Aunt means well.” I said. “She just wants what’s best for me.” BEN hugged me. “Oh you innocent lamb.” He cooed. “I hate to say it, but, BEN is right.” Jeff said. “It sounds like she wants to control you.” “Y-yeah.” Toby chimed in. “You don’t scold your kid for-tic-crying, it’s a human reaction-tic-to c-cry.” I laughed. “I guess I’m not human.” The tears had stopped, but BEN was still hugging me. “Oi, 12 year old perv.” I said. “I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my dinner to burn.” “It’s noodles they won’t burn.” BEN replied, squeezing me tighter. “Off.” I said, sternly. BEN sighed. “Fine.” I walked into the kitchen and dipped myself up some Mac N’ Cheese, after I finished eating I looked out the window. He was there, the man with no face. I shuddered and went up to bed. That night I tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. I sighed, or at least I attempted to. My sigh came out as a sob, and I realized my pillow was damp from tears. I couldn’t hold it in any longer, but I tried. Then I saw a figure at my window, the faceless man. I couldn’t hold it in, I cried and sobbed into my pillow. But for the first time ever, it actually felt okay to cry. Family Troubles3rd person point of view. A 14 year old girl walked down the hallway of her father’s Asylum, toward her father’s office. All of the sudden the lights started to flicker and a scream sliced through the air. A minute later Doctors and Nurses rushed around the young girl, urging her to keep walking and go straight to her father’s office. As she obeyed, the girl caught a glimpse of the doctors rushing a 15 year old boy to the ER on a gurney. A boy, with a glasgow smile, and no eyelids. First person point of view. I shook my head as I walked next to Jeff down the dirt path. What was that? It seemed like a memory, but, I think I would remember seeing someone die. “Hey!” Jeff yelled. “Are you listening?” “Huh?” I said, coming out of my daze. “Sorry, Jeff my brain won’t work today.” Jeff shook his head. “Anyways, did you see the look on her face when I pushed the brat down the stairs?! Ha! Priceless!” He said, with a laugh. “Oh yeah, about that. I’m not fond of Jessica Kents, but you could have seriously injured her.” I said. “Oh, come on.” Jeff pouted. “She was all like ‘ooh, nails~ OMG I’m like falling~’!” We both burst out laughing. “Okay, that was the worst impression of a teenage girl I’ve ever seen.” I said, in between laughs. “I know that’s what made it funny.” Jeff laughed. I shook my head, Jeff looked to the side and he seemed to pale. “Jeff?” Jeff pointed to a nearby tree. Hesitantly, I looked toward where he was pointing. “BOO!” I screamed and literally jumped. “That’s not funny!” I yelled. “You’re right.” Jeff said, after he stopped laughing. “It was hilarious.” I giggled. “You’re weird Jeff, you know that?” “What happened to me being a dick?” “I changed my mind.” We walked in silence, but not an awkward silence, one where we knew that if either one of us said something it would make it awkward. It was nice though. “Aunt alert.” Jeff said, and then he disappeared. I looked up, standing at the front door was indeed my Aunt. I walked up to her, even though Jeff had made himself disappear I could still feel him walking next to me. “Hey Auntie.” I said, smiling at her. “What are you doing here?” “Oh I just wanted to see my favorite niece.” She said. Immediately I could tell, something was wrong. I grabbed the handle of the knife I kept in my back pocket, just in case. “Auntie, is something wrong?” I asked. “What a question.” She answered, with a sickening smile. “Oh, those earrings you wore, last time I saw you, were adorable.” I pulled out my knife. “Okay, cut the crap.” I growled. My Aunt pulled out a gun. “Remember Dearie, never bring a knife to a gunfight.” I could feel Jeff staring at us, why didn’t he do anything? “What gave me away?” My Aunt asked, gripping her gun tighter. “Oh please.” I said. “You think 15 years of living with you and I wouldn’t have learned anything?” My Aunt smirked. “You said it Dearie, not me.” “I’ve never gotten my ears pierced.” I growled. “And that’s the subject you always go to when there’s something wrong, something you know about.” “Your smart, Dearie. I’ll give you that.” “The question is; Why?” “Look around you, Dearie. See anything of interest, anything valuable?” Then it clicked, The Asylum. “You want the Asylum.” I said. “Why? What’s so special about a crumbling, old building?” My Aunt laughed bitterly. “It’s worth a lot.” “Money. It always is about money in the end isn’t it?” “Not Money, Dearie, Research.” “What?” “This place is a information gold mine, for paranormal researchers like me.” I growled. “You told me you worked at a Hot Topic.” “I lied.” “If you wanted the Asylum so bad, why didn’t you just say so?” “Oh, you wouldn’t have given it up. Not when you had grown so attached to, the lie of how good a man your father was.” “You’re evil.” My Aunt laughed. “Now, you’re in my way.” She aimed the gun at my head, and did the one thing I never thought she would. My Aunt pulled the trigger. An explanationI tried to move, to do something, but I couldn’t. Frozen with fear, I closed my eyes and waited for the impact of the bullet. But it never came. Instead there was a sound like metal colliding with metal, and the sound of my Aunt’s astonished gasp. I opened my eyes, and there, knife in hand, stood Jeff. “What? How?” Was all my Aunt could utter. “You know, I HATE liars.” Jeff growled, his voice now sounded raspy and laced with insanity. “Jeff…” I muttered. “Are you okay?” “Are you an IDIOT?!” He yelled. “Get OUT of here.” By this time my Aunt had regained her wits, and was now delighted with Jeff’s presence. “Oh how interesting.” My Aunt said. “An actual apparition of a 16 year old boy.” “Your a sicko.” I said. My Aunt just laughed, ‘She’s crazy, she actually wants to kill me!’ I thought. “Didn’t you hear me?” Jeff growled. “RUN!” I obeyed I ran toward the back door, dodging bullets as I went. Once I got inside I ran through Toby, and toward the basement. “Jack!” I yelled, turning the light on. “Are you down here?!” “Indeed. How may I be of assistance?” Jack said, appearing behind me. “I need you to go find someone, anyone, my Aunt is a madwoman trying to kill me!” “I believe I know someone who can help.” “Great!” “However, whether he will be willing to lend a hand is a whole different matter.” “Well, try your best. Please.” Jack nodded then left. I turned towards Toby, who had a waffle hanging out of his mouth and was standing at attention. “Toby go help Jeff.” I demanded, as I walked upstairs. “But-” Toby tried to protest, but I cut him off before he could. “No buts Toby, butts are for sitting. Now please go help Jeff.” I said, pointing toward the back door. “Okay…” Toby said, then disappeared. “Big sis, what can I do?” Sally’s little voice floated from behind me. I turned and there stood Sally holding BEN’s hand. It was so cute and I would have taken a picture, but it didn’t seem like a good time. “Sally can you go play in your room.” I said, putting my hand on the 8 year old’s head. “But I want to play Hide n’ Seek.” “I’ll play with you later, I promise.” “Okay!” Sally smiled and skipped off toward her room. “BEN watch her.” I said, BEN nodded and ran after Sally. Masky and Hoodie came down the stairs, and walked toward me. “Jeff is fighting your Aunt with Toby.” Masky stated, as if it was normal. “AnD JaCk DiSaPpEaReD.” Hoodie muttered. I was a bit shocked, because Hoodie never spoke. And to find out he sounded like he autotuned himself, was pretty weird. But we had more pressing matters at hand. “Masky, Hoodie, I need you to split up for a moment.” I muttered, they were always together. “Masky go look after BEN and Sally, make sure they stay in Sally’s room.” Masky nodded and walked toward Sally’s room, I then turned to Hoodie. “Hoodie, go find Liu and lock everything.” I said. “After that, go to the security room and just watch everything.” Hoodie nodded and disappeared, I then ran to my room. I shut the door and held my knife to my chest, as I sat at the end of my bed. “Jeff, you may be dead. But if something bad happens to you and Toby, I’ll kill you again.” The Boy With The Glasgow SmileJeff’s point of view. ~3 years earlier~ “What’s wrong, Mommy?” I asked, my obviously frightened mother. “Aren’t I beautiful?” “Y-yes, sweetie. L-let me get your f-father, so he can see how beautiful you are.” I watched as my mother ran toward her bedroom, I followed her. “Peter! Peter!.” Mom whisper yelled, shaking my Father’s shoulder frantically. “Get the gun!” Rage seethed through my body. My own mother wanted to kill me, just because I looked different. I growled, and tears leaked out of my lidless eyes. At that moment I gave into the voices, the ones that told me to hurt people, the ones that told me to cut and mutilate. I ran to the Bathroom and grabbed the knife that I used to cut my smile, and returned to my parents room. “Mommy, you lied.” I growled. My mother screamed, and I lunged at her. ~Present day~ I watched Hattie run inside, finally she listened to me. Now I could take care of her Aunt my way, just talking to this woman wasn’t going to do anything. I wasn’t proud of what I did in my past, to my parents and Liu. But when I realized what I had done, I decided I would only kill the people who really deserved it. And this lady deserves it. “All right lady.” I growled. “Time to finish this.” “Oh, is that so?” She asked. “I knew something was off, when Hattie first came here.” I said. “She had an aura of death around her, she was supposed to die when you tried to shoot her.” “So why did you stop me?” “Because, I realized people make there own destiny. Fate only does so much, I gave these scars to myself. If I knew then what I know now, I would be alive and with my family.” “So, you want her to have a nice life?” “Nothing of the sort.” “Then, why did you stop me?” “Why should I tell you?” I rushed at Linda and tried to slit her throat, but I miscalculated and my forearm went through her. Man being dead sucks. I tried again but she was to fast, god damnit. “Stop moving and let me skewer you!” I yelled. Linda laughed. “You won’t hit me Dearie.” “Don’t call me that it’s sickening!” All of the sudden, Toby’s hatchet came through the air and sliced her arm before embedding itself into the trunk of a nearby tree. “And who are you?” Linda asked, holding her arm and staring a Toby. “Ticci-tic-T-toby.” Toby said. I nodded to Toby in thanks. “Alright, let's end this.” I lunged at Linda and Toby went to retrieve his hatchet. And he attacked as well. No way we can lose now, no way. “She’ll still die you know.” Toby and I stopped are movements. “What do you-tic-mean?” “You’re dead so I can do this.” Linda said. She opened her hand, sutras. Suddenly neither Toby or I could move, and our weapons dropped to the ground. Crap. “Well boys this has been fun, but I have a persistent niece that needs to be taken care of.” Linda said, as she walked into the Asylum. bURN IT tO tHE gROUNDHattie’s point of view. I sat at the end of my bed terrified. Jeff and Toby were fighting my Aunt, Masky and BEN were watching Sally, Jack went to look for help, Hoodie and Liu were in the security room and I was all alone with nothing but a knife to defend myself. Then I heard footsteps coming toward my room, I held my breath not ready to face who came through the door. “You know the first rule of hiding from your attacker.” My Aunt said, as she came into my room. “Is to never hide in your room.” “How’d you get in here?” I asked. “Sutras, Dearie.” “I hate you.” My Aunt laughed bitterly. “Now let’s finish what we started, shall we?” She aimed for my head and at the last second, I dove under my bed. Lucky only my hand got grazed, but it hurt like hell. My breath was shaky and I was trapped. “Oh come on, be brave.” My Aunt’s voice drifted to me. ‘A way out, find a way out.’ Was the only thing going through my mind. Then it hit me, the only way out. I kept a lighter on my night stand, if I could reach that then… Then I could set the Asylum on fire, and this would all be over. I reached as far as I could, without my Aunt noticing. Luckily I was able to grab the lighter, this was it. I got out from under the bed. “I didn’t want to do this.” I mumbled. “There’s a good girl, now put the lighter down.” “No.” I took a deep breath and ignited the lighter, then I let it fall to the floor. My Aunt lunged for me and I dodged her, letting her fall into the flames. My bed and floor were already on fire, and it would just get worse from there. I ran as fast as my legs would carry me, trying to find a way out of the house. But the smoke got to me and everything went black. iN tHE eNDI woke up, and I was...floating. I looked around, the Asylum was just a pile of rubble and ash. “So I am alive.” I muttered. “I see you’re awake.” I looked up, and saw the faceless man. I screamed and thrashed around, trying to get free of his grip. “Still as spunky as every ain’t ya.” I looked down and saw BEN. However he looked different, more solid. “BEN?” I muttered. “I know, I look better now that I’m alive.” “That is, most likely, not what she was thinking.” I looked up, to see Jeff on a tree branch. “S’up.” I smiled and was then set down by the faceless man. “Hattie, Slendy. Slendy, Hattie.” Jeff said. “Hi.” I muttered. All of the sudden I was tackled by a Toby. “HI!” I giggled. “Hi, Toby.” That’s when I realized, he wasn’t going through me. “Toby! You’re alive!” Toby nodded. “Yeah, your Aunt’s sutras did something, we don’t know what though.” Masky said. Jeff jumped down from the tree. "Well, I hope you learned your lesson.” “About what?” “Never tell your Aunt where you live.” I laughed. We all went over the events of what happened, turns out Slender was the help Jack went to get. It seems Slender was one of the good guys after all, he was just looking out for the guys. It all seems like a weird dream now, but I know it was real. And I wouldn’t change it for the world. EpilogueI sat in my new apartment, listening to one of my Spotify playlists. I was content with my life at the moment, it had been 2 months since everything with my Aunt happened. The Pasta’s, as I had come to know the crazy ghosts I had lived with for a time, found an old mansion in the woods and decided to live there. Sure I saw a psychiatrist for a while, but other than that I was content. I was recreating a picture I found online, when a pain went through my head. Flashes of images of a car, went through my mind. But one image stood out from them all, a boy. Toby. THE END
